Of all the kids at Hartley High, Charlie Byrd is the most likely to succeed. An only child, Charlie spent all his boyhood getting ready for one thing: the HSC. When Charlie is not studying, he is surfing the net. It was on the 'net' that he met Katerina, and was so keen on what she told him about herself that he transfered to Hartley High to be with her. But when Katerina met Charlie, she was underwhelmed by this bespectacled, geeky-looking guy, and the relationship was off before it began.
Before Charlie became Katerina's boyfriend, he had to change: he had to lose his glasses, get a life, and become one of the gang. It was a lot to ask for, but Charlie was keen to learn...and he had a lesson or two of his own to teach the Hartley gang.
