Season Five

Fiona (Judy Morris) turns up with a lucrative sponsorship contract to lure Bonnie (Tamsin Carroll) back to tennis practice. Bonnie is back on the court in no time, ready to re-focus for the junior state titles.

Kurt (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor) suspects Bonnie has some problems at school and his suspicions are confirmed when he discovers she can't read. Kurt tries to help but his advice falls on deaf ears. To Bonnie, tennis has always been more important than school, an attitude supported by Fiona who allows her daughter to leave Hartley. But Bonnie soon realises that unless she learns to read, she will never be truly independent.

Draz (Callan Mulvey) has been giving Dennis (Putu Winchester) a constant razzing and Dennis is looking for revenge. The opportunity arises when Barnett asks the science class to bring in urine samples for experimental tests. When Draz's urine shows high levels of glucose, Barnett suggests he sees a doctor as he could have diabetes. Draz is mortified and Dennis enjoys telling him about a diabetes-suffering uncle he had whose limbs fell off from gangrene. The revelation that his life might be cut short sees Draz turning over a new leaf. However, a trip to the doctor confirms he's in perfect health. Dennis then happily admits he spiked Draz's urine sample with liquid glucose.
