Season One

Ireni dies from injuries sustained in a car accident. George gives over totally to his grief while Nick withdraws emotionally. The kids at school and teachers, particularly Christina, are worried when Nick goes from being a composed tower of strength to someone who is clearly harbouring a lot of anger.

Christina visits the Poulos house and finds it and George are a mess. She sees he is too deep in his own sorrow to reach out to Nick or Effie. However, George is shocked back to reality when he has to pick Nick up at the Police Station for punching a Policeman.

Nick takes steps towards dealing with his grief; he visits his mother's grave.

We see the Poulos family coming to terms with their loss. A fragile domesticity is established and with Christina to help and advise them, life feels like it can continue.
