Scott Major as Rivers Exclusive interview with Scott Major who played Peter Rivers in Heartbreak High

Question from Trine : Hey...first I wanna say I loved the show, it was one of my favourites...! I would like to know if there were any cast couples that dated out side the camera, in real life?
You may think that I am lying but when I was in the show there was no one going out on the cast. I have heard some rumors that there was dating after I left.

Question from Mina : Hi Scott! I'd like to know if you prefered to play Rivers at the beginning of the show, when he was violent, racist...Or did you prefer to play him when he became a sensitive guy, nicer, and more tolerant. What was the most interesting in your opinion? Thanks! :)
I loved playing rivers right the way through...but I thought he was really full on at the start and sometimes I would be uncomfortable saying the racist things that I had to say. I think I likes rivers most in the middle when he wasn't so angry and just a smart arse, he may have got a little soft near the end. As far as interesting goes though..... in the early part I think it was interesting to explore those racist and sexist things in the show.

Question from Erika : Hi Scott, I'm an American and was living in France in my young twenties where I got hooked on the show. I'm 29 now and back in the States, so I don't get to watch the show anymore. I remember thinking your character was really annoying when I first started watching the show, and then the episodes with Sam made me see you in another light. Those were some hot scenes! As I haven't seen the show in years, I was wondering if "Rivers" ever came back to the show after riding off into the sunset with "Sam." Also, did you and Kym Wilson have any off-show relationship? Did the idea of a teacher-student relationship on a TV show cause any uproar from the conservatives? What are you doing these days? Cheers from the USA, Erika
No Rivers never came back into the show..god knows what he and Sam would be up to now. As far as any uproar about a student teacher relationship.. the show itself tackled quite a few issues and was generally in the press for doing the "wrong thing" or misleading teenagers. But I think that was one of the good things about the show it dared to be a little different.

Question from Joshua : Hi! Scott, thanks for answer our questions it's very nice of you :!: :!: 1) which scene was your favourite 2)How did you get into television? 3) when did you cut your hair short? Bye-eeee.. Joshua
Lots of favourite scenes and I have mentioned a few in this forum so I will mention another one. When Jodie was cleaning out her locker and Rivers came over to her and told her she needed to talk to Con and sort it out. I sort of fell into it when I was about 13. I was in a modelling agency and for obvious reasons didn't get any modelling work but I got an audition for an ABC kids series and got it. I loved doing it so much that I decided that I was going to act for the rest of my life and I started taking acting lessons from then on. I cut my hair short about four or five years ago.

Question from Anne : hi :D , I really appreciate it the fact that you are wiling to take some time to answer our questions. i have a few questions (just say a lot of questions  ) for you. What do or did you like more, performing in Heartbreak High or in Always Greener? What's the most rewarding thing about being an actor? What's the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you on set? How did you get the part of Rivers in The Heartbreak Kid? Who was your favourite person to act alongside? What would you be doing if you weren't an actor? Do you have any future ambitions? I think this will be enough of me...xxx Anne 8) You are a cool dude!
The two shows were completely different and the characters that I played were totally different so it is hard to say...let's just say that I think Rivers was cooler. The most rewarding thing is coming together with a group of people cast/crew and all doing your little jobs to create a final product that hopefully you are proud of. I have done plenty of embarrassing things on set but I think the thing that I hate the most is being naked on set and I had to do that three times on Always Greener. I got the part just by auditioning, and I was very lucky to get it. I don't really have a favourite person to act alongside I get something from everyone that I work with. If I wasn't an actor I always wanted to be a motor mechanic. My future ambitions are to keep acting for the rest of my life in challenging and exciting jobs.

Question from Pitchoune : Hello, I have a lot of questions for you. Which was your favourite episode in HBH? Who were your best friends in the show, do you still keep contacts with them? What are your dreams for the future? Thanx a lot Scott and I hope you'll come another time here because we'll still be here :D byeeeeee
Lots of favourite eps... I have mentioned a couple in this forum so I will try and think of a new one....the first episode...it just sort of went bang I think it was a great first ep of a show. I have lots of friends from the show and I still try to keep in touch with as many as possible. My dreams for the future are to keep on working in my industry and get interesting work. I will come again...I am not sure what you mean. to this forum or france. but hopefully I will go back to both.

Question from Paul : was there any off camera romance with kym wilson (sam), and are you still in contact with her now?
We did get very close off the set but there was no romance as such..... And I have lost contact with her I think the last time I saw her was about 2years ago.

Question from Lisa : Hey, some of the guys i was asking this question to thought you'd be able to help...do you remember if Kathleen de Leon was a guest star while you were on HBH? I thinks he woulda been on in the first couple serieses. She's small and asian, and she hasn't been credited or anything anywhere, and no one knows what episode she was in :s. She's in Hi-5 now, if that helps. Anyway, thanks for your help Lisa
not quite sure but she wasn't in it while I was on the show.

Question from Fabian : Hi Scott!! It's really cool of you to do this! I thought Rivers was great! I got three questions: 1 If you could have played another part in HBH, who would you have liked to play? 2 How did you get the part of Rivers? 3 Who kissed better, Kym or Ada?? :P
As I said in someone elses answer I would have liked to play Con...but I would have loved to be able to rollerblade like Bolton. I was in the film the Heartbreak Kid which lead into the series that is how I got the job on the series. To be honest I can't remember who kissed better.... I am sure they were both great.

Question From irit b.h. (israel) : Hi Scott! Well, my question is did u like the bad-boy image u had as peter and do u still have that when u act now?! sendin' u a big kiss... irit
I loved playing the bad boy it was heaps of fun and you get away with lots. The characters I have played since have been very different but I am looking forward to the next character where I can ad a bit of Rivers.

Question from Rinat : Hey! i wanted to know if you still in contact with other members of the series? and can you tell us stories behind the scenes?
I am still in contact with lots of the people from the show we still get along really well. There is a certain bond all the cast members share whether we were in it at the same time or not.

Question from Miriam : 1. Is rivers much like yourself, and did you have a real relationship backstage with sam, cause you acted so good with each other! 2.Would you make a comeback to heartbreak-high if they would ask you to come and why? 3.What's your favorite scene with Sam? 4.What kind of music do you like and which artist? 5. I wanted to ask why you cut you hair? Cause i liked the long hair! 6. What's the most beautiful moment in your life so far? 7. Could you describe yourself in three words?
I am a little like Rivers..but not so much these days. And no sam and I did not have a relationship backstage. I would love to do a comeback ep of HBH it would be heaps of fun, but I would have to be a teacher, can you imagine Rivers as a teacher? There is one scene with sam when I barge into her house in I think the last ep that I have and tell her that she can't get rid of me this time...I think that is my favourite. I like all sorts of music but I sort of grew up with Pearl Jam and Grunge music, I have over 400 cd's and they range from country to Classical and everything in between. I cut my hair for a job..I can't remember which job but it was about time I had had it long for a long time. I was thinking of growing it agian but I might be a bit old now for long hair.

Question from Rianna : Hey Scott, In Heartbreak High, who would you want to play instead of Rivers? Do you have any brothers or sisters? And what are their names?? xxx Rianna
I don't know anyone else I would like to play...let me think.....maybe Con..he had a lot of fun. I have one brother and one sister, their names are Darren and Kelly.

Question from Efi : Are you still acting?
Absolutely I am still acting....I love it and don't think I could possibly do anything else.

Question from Sagit : i m from israel and i watch you evry day.. i just want to tel you that i love you' ba bay
Thankyou very much!!! I have a friend from Isreal who's name is Sagit too... funny hey.

Question from Anne : Hi Scott, 1. What is it what you do between acting jobs? 2. Did you have a say in what happened with Rivers in HBH? If you did...who decided that you had to leave with Sam? 3. Did you watch the series yourself? 4. How did you behave in your own school? 5. What was the food like in the Heartbreak High canteen? 6. Are you anything like Rivers? 7. What has been the most embarassing moment while filming Heartbreak High? 8. What's your typical day like? 9. Did you watch Heartbreak High after you left the show? 10. How long did you get to learn your scripts? 11. Who is your on-screen idol, and why? 12. Do you get noticed everywhere you go? 13. Have you thought about working on the other side of the camera? 14. What's the weirdest fan mail you have ever received? 15. If you were invisible for one day what would you do? 16. Who were your best friends on the HBH set? 17. Who were the pranksters of the HBH cast? 18. Do you have a hard time in remembering your lines? 19. Do you prefer stage or television? Thanks!!
Wow Anne lots of questions....here goes. I sometimes work in bars when I am in between acting gigs. I had a little say in what happened to Rivers, both Kym and I thought that our characters should leave together and the producers agreed. Yes I did watch the series, I like to watch things that I have done so I can see what I am doing wrong and try and fix it. I was a bit of a cheeky bugger at school but no where near as cheeky as Rivers. There was no actual canteen at HBH but the catering was excelent. I have my little bits of Rivers but I am not the same as him. Sometimes I wish I could be as cheeky as him. When I am working my typical day would be get up about 5 and then go to set for a full days filming finish at about 6 or 7 and then go home and cook some dinner or do some exercise.. depending on how big a day I have had. No I didn't get to see a lot of HBH after I had left but the stuff I did see was excellent. We sometimes got a week to learn the scripts but usually is was only a couple of days as we were shooting one lot and then rehearsing the next lot. I don't really have an on screen idol as such but I do have a lot of respect for a lot of actors. Yes I do still get noticed quite a lot. I would like to work on the other side of the camera at one point but for now I am just concentrating on acting as I believe I need a lot of work there yet. I have recieved tons of weird fan letters the weirdest one I can not even begin to explain..lets just say it was very rude. If I was invisible for a day I would probably go around and see my friends and see what they had to say about me.....maybe I am just paranoid. I had lots of great friends on the set of HBH, I hung around Sal,Abi,Ada,Barbera,Jon,Vince,Corey..... we all hung around together really. The pranksters were usually the crew. I am lucky remembering my lines come fairly easy to me it is just the acting side I have problems with. I love all mediums of acting, I have done more television and I enjoy that but the theatre experience I have had I loved I also really love working on film.

Question from Jess : I am a big fan of Always Greener is it ever going to be repeated on tv again? Also I am trying to get the cast of Always greeners autographs do you have any idea hot I could contact any of them by mail?
I don't know if Always Greener will ever be screened again but let's hope that it will be. If you send a letter to Channel 7 they may be able to get you a signed cast shot, but I don't know as all the cast have gone their seperate ways now in different states around Australia.

Question from Skippy : Dear Scott, I just wanted to say that you did your job portraying Rivers very well. Is there any favourite storyline that you have? Did you watch the show yourself and if so, did you still when you had left? How was it working with Kym Wilson? Because I found the Sam/Rivers romance very likeable. Thank you for your time.
Thankyou, I loved playing Rivers. There were lots of great storylines one of the ones that I likes was the rollerblading storyline as Jon Pollard and I helped write it. It was great working with Kym, she is a great girl who takes her craft really seriously and we worked hard to make it as real as possible.

Question from Luka : Hey mate, i'm your big fan! I want to know where abouts do you live in Australia?! Sydney? Do you have time for reading letters from your fans, and if you have time, where I can send my letters?! Will you read them, and will you send me back?
I now live back in Melbourne in a place called Beaumaris. As far as where you can send mail, you can send it to my agent at 118 Caroline St Sth Yarra Vic 3141. As yes I will absolutely reply.

Question from Shiri : How old are you?
I am 28yo I was born on the 4th of July 1975

Question from Thomas : What was it like to play a bad-boy, compared to other characters you have played?
It is great playing the bad guy because you never have to say the right thing or do the right thing which means that you can improvise more. Unfortunately it also means that you will never win because the bad guy always loses.

Question from Mike : When did you first grow your hair long and why ?
I started to grow my hair long when I was about 14, just because I thought it was cool. I don't know if it is any more. My hair is now short but I was thinking of growing it agian.

Question from Inge : Have you ever been in the Netherlands??? If yes what did you like about it
No unfortunately I have never been to the Netherlands but would love to do a bit more travelling in the next couple of years.

Question from Craig : Is being on a TV show really all its cracked up to be? and have you ever visited Scotland?..if not when u get here can i buy u a beer?
Working on a tv show is hard work but can also be a lot of fun...so yeah it may be all it is cracked up to be. No I have not been to Scotland but hope to go there maybe next year and yes you can definitely buy me a beer.

Question from Leanne : Hi Scott!! I have more of a comment for you then a question... Peter Rivers was the coolest character ever! I absolutely adored Heartbreak High! And you were the main reason i got hooked. Whatever youre up to now, i wish you all the best. And thanks for making H.H. so enjoyable for me. ~Leanne~
Thanks a lot for that Leanne it is great to hear positive feed back, I think I was lucky I was given a pretty cool character to play.

Question from Anne and Hannalot : 1. Which actor or actress would you love to meet and work with? 2. Which scene in your career was your hardest to play? 3. Who do you think had to play the coolest character in hbh while you were in it?
I would love to work with Cate Blanchett as I think that she is an amazing actress with amazing screen presence. As far as the hardest scene that I have ever had to do...well it is hard to pick just one as I love to challenge myself and try and make it hard for myself. But there was a scene recently that I had to do in Always Greener when I had to get really mad at one of the other characters because they had betrayed me and for some reason I found it really hard to nail. The coolest character on HBH while I was on it would have to be Bolton wouldn't it...then again Con was pretty cool and so was Steve. And Jodie was pretty cool too..... I am not sure.

Question from Lee : Do you have a girfriend?
At the moment yes I do have a girlfriend, but she has just left me and gone back to the UK for at least six months. I am thinking of heading over there for a working holiday next year some time.

Question from Hanna : 1. If you could play in an existing movie, which one would it be? 2. What kind of character do you most like to play?
Good questions.....I would like to play Kevin Spacey's Character in the Usual Suspects as I think he does a great job and I would like the challange of it. As far as the characters that I like to play, well I like to take different sorts of characters if the op appears. I must admit though playing the bad guy is always fun.

Question from Keren : What are you doing these days?
I have been acting since I left HBH and have done quite a few things, the most recent is a show called Always Greener that was screened here in Australia. I don't think it went to too many other countries around the world. And hopefully there is a couple of other jobs on the way next year. I will keep you informed.

Question from Shirley : Hello Scott, It's been several years since your episodes were broadcasted here in the Netherlands. I was a teenager then, and had somewhat of a crush on you! Now I'm older, wiser and married, but always wondered what became of that cute boy from HH. You are difficult to track on the internet. I found Abi several times, but you are nowere to be found. My question is: Do you have an internet-site or a fansite? Greetings Shirley
I haven't made a website myself but there has been one made for me by a girl named Hannalot and it is great, I think she knows more about me than I do. The website is scott-major.tk

Question from Jon : Do you know what any of the cast have been up to since the Heart Break High days?
yeah I know quite a lot of what people have been up to. in fact quite a lot of them have gone on to really good things. It must have been a good breeding ground. Ada is on Home and Away, you can see Rupert in Matrix, Sal Cocco did a movie called Walk the Talk, Jon Pollard is working on his own show at the moment. There are really too many to go into but if you want to know about someone in particular let me know and I should be able to find out.

Question from Sally : Wow important in the scale of things i.e your career, was landing a part in heartbreak high, and did u realise that it would be aired all over the world not just australia u sexy fiend.
well thankyou for the sexy fiend thing??? When I started on HBH it was a big thing but I did not realise the impact that it would have on my life. I still get people calling me Rivers everyday and it was about ten years ago for me. I am glad that it did well around the world because I am really proud of the show and it was so much fun to work on and maybe everyone can get that vibe.

Question from Becky : Ok its not a question but i just wanted to say hi! living in the uk i dont get to see Heartbreak High anymore but i grew up with the show, i love it!(and im now 21!)
well hi back to you becky, I am glad you liked watching the show and I think it may be back on air soon in the UK so look out for it.

Question from Ali : Did you enjoy playing Rivers and ws his character anything like your personality in off screen? I would also like to ask if Heartbreak High is ever coming back on our screens here in the uk? I used to watch it on channel 2 on a tuesday. It was my fave programme! Hope your well! Luv AliXxX
I absolutely loved playing Rivers he was heaps of fun to play. As far as being anything like him......well I think there is a bit of me in every character I play and I think when you play a character it does effect who you are a little bit and you become a little more like them. I don't know when it is coming back on in the UK but I do know that Ben Gannon has just sold all the eps to heaps of countries around the world again....so hopefully you should be able to see it soon.

Question from Lilly : Hello Scott, I'm Lilly from Israel! I am HUGE fan of Peter and Peter&Sam, what an AMAZING love story! KUDOS to both of you. my question is, how did you feel about this realtionship? did you think it was right or wrong?
I thought the relationship although frowned upon by most people in authority was a sweet and passionate love story. And talking to real teachers apparently it can happen quite often.

Question from Sandra : Dear Scott, Which tv-romances did you like most and which didn't you like at all? Which actors are your friends in real life? What do you like most? Playing in a film or in a tv serie? Thanks for answering! Love, Sandra
I really liked the tv romance in Moonlighting, which was an old show with Bruce Willis and .... oh I can remember her name.... As far as actors that are my friends..I still stay in touch with heaps of the guys from HBH like Sal, Jonni, Callum, Tara, Lara, Ada, Barbera and heaps more I don't want to keep mentioning names just in case I forget someone which I am sure I already have..like Sebastion and Rupert. As far as tv and film I love working in both mediums and hope I can continue to into the future.

Question from Deep : Scott, i've got to ask you this...did you really have something with Ada?? Weren't you even tempted? Greetz, Deep :)
No there was definitely nothing going on with Ada and myself. She is quite a few years younger than me (not that that makes a difference) and we were just good mates and still hang out quite a bit now.

Question from Kyra : In English we are playing a scene with nick and miss papodopoulos and i am a lead but we haven't scene a script yet... i was just wondering if the characters relate to characters we might recognize in the public?
I am not quite sure which scene you are talking about but I do know that most of the scenes out of HBH are quite real and can be related to people that you may know or see on the street. I hope that is what you were asking....

Question from Pauline : Hi! What were your favourite episodes? (Not only on which you played?) bye
It was a long time ago so it is hard to remember the episodes that I liked by number but I will give it a go.... I think it was ep 9 which was the funeral episode of nicks mum. That was directed by Shirley Barret. And I have a personal attachment to ep 19 (I think that was the number) It was a rollerblading ep that Jon Pollard and I helped write.

Question from Chris : You wore rollerblade clothing in the series, do you blade in real life, if not, WHY?
I did rollerblade in real life, not quite as much as Jon Pollard who I lived with at the time, he got me into it. He played Bolton later in the series.
